You might have Bacterial vaginosis (BV)

But not to worry – 1 in 3 women suffer from BV. In fact, it’s more common than thrush. BV is harmless and easily treated, but it can feel uncomfortable.

How do you get BV?

BV is the result of the overgrowth of unwanted bacteria in your vagina. Normally, the healthy lactobacilli are the dominating bacteria in the vagina, but if BV develops, other unwanted bacteria start to overgrow/proliferate.

The cause isn’t completely understood, but certain activities, such as unprotected sex or frequent douching, increase your risk.

How do you treat BV?

The most common treatment for bacterial vaginosis is antibiotics, prescribed as an oral tablet or as a product you apply in your vagina. This is an effective treatment for most women, however they can increase resistance to future treatment making it less effective, and cause side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

Another common treatment is to use over the counter self-care products like Multi-Gyn ActiGel. Multi-Gyn ActiGel restores the vaginal pH level and treats bacterial vaginosis and its related symptoms such as strong odor and abnormal discharge. It also offers direct relief of itch, irritations, sensitivity, redness and soreness, related to bacterial problems.

If your complaints persist or reoccur, you should contact your physician or gynecologist.
